Summer Travel Safety Tips

Summer Travel Safety Tips

Tips for safe summer travel with your pet with amazing advice from PurePaws Vet Care of Hell's Kitchen:

  • Traveling by car? Pets should always go in crates that are secured to seats. (If you don't have a crate for the car, you should use a harness/attachment that buckles into a seatbelt buckle).

  • Never travel with a pet in a truck bed. A sudden change of motion or impact could be fatal.

  • Schedule a check-up for your pet prior to your trip, and consider requesting sedation or nausea medication.

  • Know where the closest animal hospitals and animal ER's are during your travel.

  • Make sure your pet always has access to food, water, and stop frequently for bathroom breaks on the way!

Packing List:

  • Health Certificate and medical records

  • Flea/Tick/Heartworm prevention

  • Any prescriptions

  • Food bag & food/water bowls

  • Favorite toys and treats

  • Updated ID tags and collars

  • Leash/harness

  • Poop bags

  • Dog Towel if you're near water

  • Cleaning spray and pee pads (if pup isn't fully potty trained)

  • Bed and Crate and/or playpen/gate for breaks from social time if needed.

  • Long lead for safe yard exploration in new place.

It's also very important to continue your exercise/training schedule, and for your dog's routine to stay as consistent as possible!

Trainee of the Month:

PERRI THE SHITZU

Perri, a one year old shitzu, has been working hard on her journey to self-improvement. She has a tremendous phobia being in cars and the city environment, so much so on her first day in the city she made the great escape on the east side. With the help of NYPD officers, Perri was found unharmed, and since then her parent has devoted her time to building her up for success. With the help of regular sessions with Jenna, to desensitize her to new environments, a board and train experience with Victoria and support of her daycare at All Dogs in the City, we are seeing this girl shine brighter everyday.

If you have any questions or would like specific help and advice, feel free to contact your SSDT trainer, or contact us on social media!!

If you have not worked with us before, but you’d like to have a private session to begin your training process, and start working on your dog's basic obedience or other training needs, our virtual training sessions are a perfect place to start!
